It happens to us all every day. These inexplicable excuses why we should better delay a certain action because “we do not have the money right now”, or “there is not enough time available”, or “the weather has to be better” or “until it is full moon” or … Why is it human nature to delay something of which we know that it makes perfect sense to do it? Is it the fear of the unknown? The fear for doing something that doesn’t fit in our daily pattern? The fear of success? Probably all off the above but especially our daily pattern gets in our own way. From the day we are born our social environment uses everything that it has in its power to neutralize our natural instincts. To neutralize our survival instincts: to be alert and to observe everything around us so we can identify what we can use to survive or to improve our lives and what could be a threat. Already as a baby you do not have to worry about these things. People around you ensured, not only for you but also for themselves, that your surroundings hold no surprises. Today follows at least a similar, if not identical, pattern as yesterday and the days before yesterday. Tomorrow will look the same as today. We’re getting drilled, or dare I say, brainwashed, to do the same as everyone else for the rest of our lives. Go to school for a minimum of 12 years, believe everything you are being taught and above all, stay between the lines drawn by your “superiors”. Make sure you get a degree or else “you will never get a job”. Then go to work for about 45 years, do as you are being told by other “superiors” and in return you will get some money. If they can tell you more than average what to do, you will get more than average money. Above all, make sure you don’t do less “or else you will lose your job”. Like babies in a cradle we are continuously and relentlessly rocked to sleep and for those of us who do their best to stay awake, the “fear for fear”-feeling is planted into our thinking, as an efficient tool to have us back down and fall asleep with the rest. Then by the time you reached an age where you cannot reach your knees anymore with your hands while standing up, you are “released” so you can “enjoy” your spare time with a pension that probably just suffices to do something extra-ordinary maybe once a year and for the rest you are stuck to a pattern which most probably is very similar, if not identical, to the patterns of most people of your age. At that stage in your life, how many times will you have delayed endlessly something of which you knew it made perfect sense, of which you knew it had a good change to turn the tide, to break the pattern, to give you maybe just 1% more control of your own day-to-day live? How much percentage in total of that control have you wasted because you thought “sometime in the future” would be a better moment? Because, you were afraid to break the pattern. You knew the pattern wasn’t what you needed but it has been there for such a long time it feels too familiar and too safe to break it. That is exactly why today is the day to make the decision that today is always the day to decide. It is a choice we all have in the end: do you trust your instincts again and do you go for what you truly believe in? Even if you fail, you have the satisfaction of knowing you gave it your best shot! Or do you believe what the system wants you to believe in order to keep you on an invisible leash? With the constant fear of being whipped when you do not please the system or even worse, the fear to break the leash, not knowing where to go next because nobody is pulling you anymore to the left or to the right. Do you want to live your own live? Or the system’s? Today is the day to make that choice! Upwards and onwards – The Happy Dadpreneur
